Picture-in-Picture
Pop your video into a floating, always-on-top window.
Picture-in-Picture (PiP) lets you pop a recorded session's video out of the Studio into a small floating window that stays on top of your other apps. It's a desktop-only feature, perfect for keeping a meeting recording in view while you take notes or work elsewhere.
Picture-in-Picture is available in the Kalima desktop app for Windows, macOS, and Linux. The browser version plays video inline in the Studio but cannot detach it into a floating window. See Web App vs. Desktop App for the full comparison.
What Picture-in-Picture does
When you detach a video, Kalima moves playback into a compact floating window that you can move and resize freely, and that stays visible above other applications. It keeps full playback controls, and it tracks the same playback position as the main Studio window, so you never lose your place.
How to use it
Controls
The floating window has everything you need to follow a recording without switching back to the main window:

| Play / Pause | Starts and stops playback. |
| Skip back 10s | Jumps backward 10 seconds. |
| Skip forward 10s | Jumps forward 10 seconds. |
| Fullscreen | Expands the video to fill the screen. Exiting fullscreen reattaches the video to the main window. |
| Minimize | Tucks the floating window away. |
| Close | Closes the floating window and reattaches the video to the main Studio window. |
Use Picture-in-Picture to review a meeting's screen recording in a corner of your display while you write up notes, draft a follow-up, or work in another app. The video keeps playing while your transcript and AI tools stay one click away in the main window.
Good to know
- Picture-in-Picture is desktop-only. It works in the installed Kalima app, not in the browser.
- The floating window has a minimum size, so it stays large enough to read comfortably.
- Closing the floating window reattaches the video to the main Studio window, right where you left off.
